Metering: Smart Phone vs DSLR

Hi everyone,

Most of the new photographers today are cellphone or smartphone photographers. Most of our smartphones today are giving tough competition to DSLR. They are light, portable and always available with us.

Most important point is that its easy with a phone camera and the results are great on the screen.

I too use my phone to take pictures. It's handy and most of the time the quality of the image is good. I don't have to process the RAW image and in built features do help.

However I have been using DSLRs for very long now and from my experience I believe that image quality of a DSLR is better than that of a phone. You don't have to agree to me, Just try it out. Or be happy with the great images of your phone.

If you know how to take a picture the camera wont matter. But it does help to have better equipment. Maybe one day camera phones will be better.

The following images are to create comparison about effects of metering on camera phones and DSLR. The major difference is because in the camera the exposure and all other settings took place automatically.

These are examples of Matrix metering.

These next images are from Center Weighted metering.

The following images are from Spot metering.

I know this is not a fair comparison. The settings are different and the hardware is very different from the other. However people do compare a phone to a DSLR, in that sense it's ok to compare the results.

Let's start a photography challenge. Camera phone vs DSLR. You be the judge and determine who wins. Just make sure the subject and the photographer are same for every comparison.
